Report of an exceptional situation in accordance with the Environmental Protection Act
Sudden contamination or a risk of sudden contamination of the environment must be reported to the competent authority without delay. The situation may be caused by an accident, unpredictable fault in production, demolition work or some other reason. Pollution or hazards can be caused by emissions or discharge of a solid substance, liquid or gas, waste or, for example, radioactivity.
Requirements
If a trader has established their business in another country within the European Economic Area and intends to provide their services temporarily in Finland, the trader is subject to the same obligations as all other traders established in Finland.
Instructions
If the exceptional situation poses a sudden hazard to the population, a notification must be submitted to the municipality’s environmental authority or the emergency response centre immediately. Once the exceptional activity has been reported, the reporting party must prepare for rapid cooperation with the authority to get the situation under control.
If the activity is based on a permit granted by a State authority, submit the notification to the authority that granted the permit. Otherwise, submit a notification to the municipality’s environmental authority. Also submit a notification in situations that do not require a permit.
