Information services

The records management takes care of the documents arising from the city’s operations and decision-making, as well as the documents received by the city. Matters handled by the city and the related documents are registered at the Registry Office. You can ask the Registry Office about pending administrative matters. The City of Lappeenranta has a centralised Registry Office at City Hall, which deals with matters of all divisions except the Environmental Office. The registry office of Lappeenranta Region’s Environmental Office is located on the premises of the Environmental Office.

Information on public documents related to the city’s operations is available in the city archives. The most requested documents include estate inventory deeds, school certificates and documents related to construction. Permanently stored documents of the municipalities merged with Lappeenranta (Lappee, Lauritsala, Nuijamaa, Joutseno and Ylämaa) are also stored in the city archives.

The city archives also house the Lappeenranta regional archives, where the archives of civic organisations, small businesses and individual persons in the region are gathered. These archives are available to researchers.

In the city archives, you can examine documents on site during opening hours, or by agreement at other times. You do not need an appointment. It is possible to arrange a place for researchers. Longer periods should be agreed on beforehand.

In principle, the operations of the authorities and the related documents are public. Documents are public unless otherwise expressly provided by law. If a document is secret, the authority is obliged to justify the decision to keep it secret. In addition, everyone has the right to be informed of documents concerning themselves, even if they are required by law to be kept secret from the public.

The original documents can only be viewed on site.

Structural drawings are no longer loaned out. You can photograph them yourself or ask your copy shop to copy them on your own account.

Instructions

To the documents of the Department of Social Services and Health Care in Lappeenranta city archives, a request for access must be made in accordance with the Act on the Openness of Government Activities. Identification is required, for example, when the request for access is directed at documents accessible by the party or documents concerning oneself, if the information contained in the document is not public.

For matters in the field of the Social and Health Care District (even old ones), a request for access in accordance with the Act on the Openness of Government Activities is made using the form of Etelä-Karjalan hyvinvointialue (ekhva.fi > forms (lomakkeet ja hakemukset).
