Notification of wild oats

You must always notify a municipality’s Rural Livelihood Authority about wild oats. Anyone can submit a notification, such as the holder of the area or a wild oats inspector.

After the notification, the authority conducts an inspection of wild oat in the area and adds the area to the wild oat register. In addition to this, the holder receives instructions for controlling wild oat.

Requirements

If the trader is established in another EEA state and provides services in Finland on a temporary basis, they are required to have the same permits as the traders established in Finland.

Instructions

Report wild oats to the municipal Rural Livelihood Authority of your municipality. If you notice wild oats on land under your control, submit a notification of this as soon as possible during the growing season, but no later than in connection with the next application for area-based subsidies.

If the area where the plants of wild oats are growing is not covered by the subsidy application, submit a free-form notification. Please include the following in the notification:

• your name and contact details
• an estimate of the occurrence’s size
• whether any control actions have been taken
• the degree of detected wild oats contamination.

Submit a notification also if you notice wild oats on someone else’s land. Please include the following in the notification:

• your name (not mandatory, not disclosed to the holder of the area)
• the name of the area holder (not always known to the notifier)
• the number of the basic field or description of the location of wild oats contamination (the basic field number is not usually known to the notifier)
• whether the wild oats have been identified
• an estimate of the occurrence’s size
• whether any individual plants have been eradicated
• whether any control actions have been taken
• whether the holder of the area has been notified.

After receiving the notification of wild oats, the Rural Livelihood Authority of your municipality will perform a wild oats inspection on the area and give the holder of the area instructions on how to control the wild oats as soon as possible.

Deadline

The notification of wild oats can be submitted at any time. The holder of the area must notify about the wild oats as soon as possible during the growing season and no later than in connection to the next application for area-based subsidies.
