Thanks to the restoration of water bodies, the water in Lappeenranta's lakes has become cleaner than ever.
Constructing wetlands
Wetlands bind pollutants brought by stormwater. Nine stormwater wetlands have been built on the shores of Lake Pien-Saimaa.
The Myllylampi wetland was built in Rutola in early winter 2024. The wetland delays water and collects solids even from the area of Highway 6.
The Ruoholampi wetland was completed behind the Lappeenranta school in 2023.
The Sammonlahti stormwater wetland was completed along the coastal path in 2016.
The Rantaniitty wetland is located along the coastal path. The wetland was built in 2015.
The Saunaranta wetland park was completed in 2015. It is a combination of a wetland and a park in terms of structure, and in addition to reducing the load of stormwater, the wetland is a recreational area.
The Tyysterniemi wetland was built in the winter of 2014.
The Tervahaudanpuisto wetland was built near LUT University in 2013.
The Kivisalmi wetland was completed on both sides of Voisalmentie in 2013.
The Skinnarila wetland is the first stormwater wetland built in Lappeenranta. It was completed in the autumn of 2011.
