Adapting to climate change in South Karelia

Welcome to follow the work towards climate change adaptation!

The goal of this project is to initiate and promote climate change adaptation efforts in the municipal and business sectors of South Karelia through workshops, communication, networking, and practical pilot projects.

The development work is funded by the European Regional Development Fund and it lasts from January 2025 until October 2026.

Implementation

The City of Lappeenranta is a municipal-level co-implementer in the group project. Climate change will increase forest damage and the associated risks to nature, infrastructure, and people. In Lappeenranta's sub-project, a preparedness plan will be developed for the increasing forest damage caused by climate change.

Additionally, the sub-project will update the Biodiversity program to better account for the changing climate and implement an invasive species monitoring application.

The City of Lappeenranta will communicate and inform about the solutions implemented in the sub-project both regionally and nationally.

In addition to its own sub-project, the City of Lappeenranta supports the implementation of the regional section by LAB University of Applied Sciences, participates in regional networking, and communicates about the events and results of the entire project.
