Using renewable electricity

The City of Lappeenranta was the first city in the world to adopt EKOenergy-certified electricity and sustainability criteria in its electricity procurement. Now, the city uses Väre's green electricity, which is 100% renewable and certified with a guarantee of origin.

Implementing solar power plants for new construction and renovation projects

Lappeenranta aims to implement solar power plants for all new construction and renovation projects.

The first solar power systems in the city's properties were installed in 2016

  • at the Myllymäki daycare center and
  • at the Lauritsala fire station.

Six solar power plants were built in the city's properties in 2017–2018.

Today, there are solar power plants in 19 different locations with a connected power of 870 kWp. Their annual electricity production is approximately 640 MWh.
