The Youth Council

31 council members have been elected to the Lappeenranta Youth Council through school elections. The council members are 13–18-year-old Lappeenranta residents. The term of office of the current Youth Council is 2022–2023.

The Youth Council can make decisions, for example, on the organisation of various events, make suggestions and give feedback to the city. The main task of the council is to make the voice of young people heard in the city’s decision-making.

The representative of the Youth Council has the right to attend and speak in various committees, if matters are decided separately in them. The council has its own budget which ensures that the council functions independently. It covers the costs incurred, such as various meeting and training trips as well as phone calls.

In Lappeenranta, the affairs of the Youth Council are handled through the youth services, where the contact and support person is the digital and participation worker Riitta Korhonen.
