A total of 30 applications were received in the last call for Culture pop-ups. 10 were selected for implementation. The applications were assessed on the basis of their content, their interest, the conditions for implementation, existing references and professionalism. In addition, the diversity of artistic disciplines and target groups and the location of the projects in different parts of the city were taken into account. The selection criteria also included free of charge for the visitor and compliance with the principles of safer spaces. The applications were scored against these criteria and those with the highest scores were selected. The scoring was done by Anu Talka, Cultural Director of Lappeenranta, and project coordinators Anni Pellikka and Tuulia Ahokas.

Draw with Bear Journalist workshops

Saturday 12.10., 16.11. and 14.12. at 13–15

Mai-Art Gallery, Valtakatu 37

Bear Journalist moved to Lappeenranta last autumn and fell in love with the city by Lake Saimaa. To make it home here, he is learning Finnish, but in his own way - writing stories about his family and drawing all those with love and care. It even has a name, Karhun Sanomat, which comes every month with new stories and new drawings.

In the Bear Journalist's drawing workshop, you will learn how to create your own bear character with simple but essential means: pencil, paper, and eraser. Mai-Art Gallery will host this fully hands-on workshop and provide all materials. Lappeenranta’s Dream Year of Culture supports it, so it is free of charge. Each session will be carried out for a different objective and host twelve participants. It's open wide to all levels, and the gallery is accessible for all abilities. You can join one or two of the three or all of those. In any case, you're welcome. Easy and fun. Join us.

The show will be on the wall of Shopping centre Galleria

The show takes inspiration from the movement language of contemporary dance, among other things. There is also partnering work enabled by the wall, as well as a variety of aerial flights and flips. There will also be spectacular lights and sounds. The event is part of Lappeenranta's Dream Year of Culture.

Kulttuurilahja

Saturday 16.11. at 10 and 12, Lappeenranta’s main library

Lauantai 23.11. at 10 and at 15, Lappeenranta’s Prisma

Duration about 30 min

Kulttuurilahja is a 30-minute performance by dance artist Veera Sojakka and saxophonist Annika Toivonen in the spirit of Christmas. Through dance and live music, it brings the calm and serene energy of the library to Lappeenranta’s Prisma and the lively buzz of Prisma to Lappeenranta's main library, exploring this exchange. The work travels through the performance spaces, bringing art into the midst of people's everyday lives and familiar places, bringing something new and different with it. The viewer can stop to take in the sensations, take a passing glance or not look at all. Everyone experiences the work in their own way. Perhaps it will leave a mark that resonates from a slightly different everyday experience when you go home.
