The Graffiti Workshops held at the beginning of June at Skinnarila Old School attracted a lot of people, says Anni Pellikka, project coordinator of the Lappeenranta´s Dream Year of Culture 2024. The most enjoyable aspects of the workshops were the opportunity for free brainstorming and hands-on work, good teaching, atmosphere and painting in general. Instructor Santtu Tuomola guided the participants through examples of graffiti styles and shading. The activities were praised and there was also a wish for future Graffiti Workshop activities for adults.

As part of Lappeenranta's Year of Culture 2024, Graffiti Workshops for adults will be organised at Skinnarila School on 5 August and 12 August 2024 at 16.30-18.00. Graffiti workshops are for people interested in graffiti. You will have the opportunity to paint graffiti outdoors in the old Skinnarila School, located at Ostosraitti 3. You can join us as a beginner or as a more experienced artist. Graffiti workshops are free of charge for participants. 10 participants will be accepted. Santtu Tuomola will be the instructor in the graffiti workshops. Pre-registration is accepted until 1.8.2024 by project coordinator Anni Pellikka anni.pellikka@lappeenranta.fi or tel. 040 5590710.

The place for all urban graffiti

The Skinnarila school building is a free graffiti art space for everyone until the building is demolished. The graffiti art project is a collaboration between Lappeenranta City Planning and Cultural Services, and is part of Lappeenranta's Year of Culture 2024. The project aims to involve and empower residents to create art as part of their own cultural environment.

The facades of the Skinnarila school building can be covered with graffiti art. Graffiti can only be applied to the façade of the building in question. Everyone who uses a graffiti site is collectively responsible for keeping it tidy. Painting or otherwise damaging other properties is not permitted (Chapter 35 of the Criminal Code on Damage). The graffiti must be appropriate and in accordance with good practice. Events associated with Lappeenranta´s Dream Year of Culture will be in accordance with the Safer Space Principles.
