Comment on alternative locations for the Lappeenranta Multipurpose Arena
Lappeenranta City Council decided on June 30, 2025, to suspend the extension of the life cycle of the Kisapuisto ice rink and to begin preparing a study on the location, design and implementation of a new multi-purpose arena.
The working group preparing the report will next collect feedback from residents and other stakeholders on alternative location options for the arena.
- This is the largest and most significant investment in Lappeenranta in the coming years, so I hope to receive a wide range of responses from residents, sports clubs, event organizers, companies and other interested parties, emphasizes Mayor Tuomo Sallinen.
According to city architect Maarit Pimiä, the working group will not vote on location options based on favorites, but will instead collect views and opinions on the characteristics of the proposed areas. The location options include the Weera block, Lappeenkatu, the Kimpinen school area in the Armila area, and the Armila hospital area.
- We will share opinions on the benefits and impacts of each location in terms of vitality and visitor flows, event production, sports and junior sports activities, parking options, and transport connections.

Residents and other interested parties can comment on the locations via an electronic survey or by submitting paper responses at the City Hall customer service center Winkki during the service desk's opening hours. The deadline for responses is October 12, 2025.
The survey includes general sketches presenting the location of the arena building in the area as well as traffic and parking solutions.
The responses, including their conclusions, will be included as part of the preparation material, which will be communicated to decision-makers. Preparations for the multi-purpose arena will progress during the rest of the year.
