The Museums of Lappeenranta picture archive

Would you like to see pictures from your childhood in Lappeenranta or elsewhere in South Karelia? Do you know what it looked like in Viipuri or the Karelian Isthmus in the 1930s?

The Museums of Lapppeenrantan picture archive contains more than 180,000 photographs. The archive records the visual cultural heritage of Lappeenranta, the region of South Karelia and the pre-war Viipuri and Karelian Isthmus, including photographs and postcards. The museum provides pictures to private people, associations, researchers, publications, marketing and the media.

The easiest way to browse the picture collections is using the Finna service, where the museum has already published approximately 17,000 photographs. Photographs published online can be downloaded and used freely as long as you mention the name of the museum and the photographer. You can also use Finna to submit feedback or additional information related to individual photographs or order photographs.

If you cannot find what you are looking for in Finna, you can also visit the Museums of Lappeenranta picture archive by advance agreement. The picture archive serves in the Lappeenranta Museums office building at Kristiinankatu 9.
